Sophia Gennusa

Sophia Elizabeth Gennusa, born October 20, 2003, is an American actress whose Broadway career spans 2013 to 2015. She is a resident of Westchester County.

Gennusa made her Broadway debut originating the title role of Matilda Wormwood in Matilda the Musical at the Shubert Theatre, sharing the part in rotation with Bailey Ryon, Oona Laurence, and Milly Shapiro. Her performance in the role concluded on December 21, 2013. She returned to Broadway in 2015 to appear in Doctor Zhivago at the Broadway Theatre, a new musical that closed following approximately three weeks of performances and an additional month of previews.

In 2013, Gennusa received a Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre, an award she shared with her fellow Matilda title-role performers Ryon, Laurence, and Shapiro in recognition of their outstanding Broadway debuts. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award for the cast recording of Matilda the Musical.

Beyond her stage work, Gennusa has performed in benefit concerts and cabarets. As of 2016, she serves as the singer of the theme song for Sesame Street. In 2015, she sang on an episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. In 2019, she began a recurring role as Hannah Shepherd on the television series The Enemy Within.
