About
Solea Pfeiffer is a Zimbabwe-born American actress and singer who has appeared on Broadway in productions including Hamilton, Hadestown, Almost Famous, and Moulin Rouge! The Musical. She grew up in Seattle, Washington, and comes from a family with deep roots in public life and academia: her maternal grandfather was former congressman Ron Dellums, and her parents are anthropologists at the University of Washington. Her mother is African-American and was adopted and raised in Boston, while her father is white. Pfeiffer has noted that she and her mother were able to connect with Dellums a year before his death. She began studying violin at age four and went on to participate in theater camps and school productions throughout her middle and high school years. She later earned a BFA from the University of Michigan and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
Pfeiffer's professional career gained early momentum in 2016, when conductor Gustavo Dudamel selected her to play Maria in West Side Story at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Dudamel's team had brought her to his attention through YouTube videos of her performing. She was 21 years old at the time. The following year, she made her national tour debut as Eliza Hamilton in the Angelica Company of Hamilton, a role that established her reputation as a leading musical theater performer.
In 2019, Pfeiffer appeared in the New York City Center's production of Evita, sharing the role of Eva Perón with Maia Reficco. Pfeiffer portrayed Perón from ages 20 through 33 in the production. Her Broadway career continued in 2022, when she played Penny Lane in Almost Famous at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater. She subsequently joined the Broadway cast of Hadestown at the Walter Kerr Theatre, replacing Eva Noblezada as Eurydice. During that run, she performed opposite Reeve Carney and Jordan Fisher, who played Orpheus.
In the summer of 2024, Pfeiffer played Myrtle Wilson in Florence Welch's Gatsby: An American Myth at the American Repertory Theatre. Later that year, she joined the Broadway cast of Moulin Rouge! The Musical as Satine at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, appearing opposite John Cardoza and Jordan Fisher, who played Christian. Her screen credits include a lead role in Tyler Perry's 2022 film A Jazzman's Blues. Since 2020, Pfeiffer has been in a relationship with Kevin Csolak.
