Born Sidney Meltzer on May 22, 1917, in Brooklyn, New York, Sid Melton was the son of Yiddish theater comedian Isidor Meltzer and Fannie Meltzer. During World War II, he entertained American soldiers overseas, and in 1949 he signed his first Hollywood contract with Lippert Pictures. His film credits include "White Heat," "On the Town," "Lady Sings the Blues," "Shadow of the Thin Man," and "Designing Woman." On television, he appeared in "Green Acres," "The Danny Thomas Show," "The Golden Girls," "Captain Midnight," "The Andy Griffith Show," and "I Dream of Jeannie."
