About

Shereen Ahmed, also credited as Sherine Ahmed Tarek, Sherin Tarek, and Shereen Ahmed Tarek, is an American actress and singer of Egyptian heritage. She grew up in Perry Hall, Maryland, the daughter of an Egyptian-born father from Alexandria and an American-born English teacher. Ahmed earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology and anthropology from Towson University in 2015.

Ahmed made her Broadway debut in Lincoln Center Theater's 2018 revival of My Fair Lady, where she understudied Laura Benanti in the role of Eliza Doolittle. She then assumed the role full-time for the production's North American tour, which ran from 2019 to 2022. Published sources identify her as the first performer of Egyptian descent to play Eliza Doolittle in a major American staging of the musical. Her performance at the Dolby Theatre received recognition from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle.

Her Off-Broadway and regional stage work includes the role of Adele Rice in John Doyle's production of A Man of No Importance at Classic Stage Company, a production that also featured Jim Parsons and Mare Winningham. At New York City Center Encores!, she portrayed Franca Naccarelli in The Light in the Piazza, and she played Claudia Nardi in Nine at the Kennedy Center's Broadway Center Stage series. Ahmed portrayed Countess Ellen Olenska in a new stage adaptation of The Age of Innocence at The Old Globe Theatre and later reprised that role at Arena Stage.

Ahmed has performed at Carnegie Hall on multiple occasions with the MasterVoices Chorus, appearing in George and Ira Gershwin's Strike Up the Band and Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe. Her concert work includes The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE Day, performed at the White House, with a separate performance alongside the Boston Pops televised on PBS. Her television credits include Law & Order: SVU and New Amsterdam.

On November 1, 2025, Ahmed headlined the official opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, a globally broadcast event attended by international dignitaries and world leaders. She delivered a featured musical performance that included the museum's theme song, "Around the World," composed by Hesham Nazih. The song was subsequently released as a single credited to Nazih and featuring Ahmed. Her recorded work also includes contributions to Parting Gift: The Songs of Gerald Ginsburg in 2024 and Out of Myself: Songs of Peter Foley Live in 2023, the latter featuring duets with Jason Gotay and Manoel Feliciano.

In 2020, the Arab America Foundation named Ahmed a "40 Under 40" awardee, an annual recognition for accomplished Arab Americans under the age of 40. She serves as a global ambassador for Education for Employment, a nonprofit focused on youth development in the Middle East and North Africa. Ahmed was also an invited speaker at the United Nations 14th Conference of States Parties, where she joined director Michael Arden for a discussion on disability, diversity, and inclusion.
