Shayna Steele

Shayna Steele, born September 23, 1975, is an American singer, songwriter, and Broadway actress whose stage career spanned from 1996 to 2004.

Steele's Broadway work includes productions at several prominent New York venues. She performed in Rent at the Nederlander Theatre and appeared in the revival of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Foxwoods Theatre, formerly known as the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Among her most notable stage credits is the original Broadway cast of Hairspray, where she portrayed a member of the girl group The Dynamites. She also appeared in Hair during her years on Broadway. Steele later returned to the Hairspray material when she appeared in Hairspray Live!, which was broadcast on December 7, 2016.

Beyond Broadway, Steele built a substantial career as a background vocalist and recording artist. She sang background vocals for Bette Midler during Midler's Las Vegas residency, The Showgirl Must Go On. Her studio work includes contributions to Moby's album Hotel and his single Disco Lies, which reached number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart. Steele released her own self-titled EP in 2004, followed by her debut full-length album, I'll Be Anything, in 2009.

Steele also established herself as a touring background vocalist for Rihanna. In 2011, she joined Rihanna's Australian leg of the Last Girl on Earth tour. She later toured with Rihanna again as a background vocalist on the North American and European LOUD tour, which began on June 4, 2014, in Baltimore, Maryland.
