About
Shay Duffin was an Irish character actor born in Dublin, Ireland, on 26 February 1931, who worked across stage, film, and television until his death on 23 April 2010.
Duffin became most closely associated with his one-man stage production centered on the Irish playwright and author Brendan Behan, for which he both wrote the script and performed the title role. The show, Brendan Behan: Confessions of An Irish Rebel, became the defining work of his theatrical career. In 1972, he extended that project into a recorded format, releasing Shay Duffin Is Brendan Behan on Potato Records.
His Broadway career included a role in James Joyce's The Dead, which he appeared in during 2000. The production drew on Irish literary heritage, placing Duffin in material that connected to his Dublin roots.
On screen, Duffin accumulated a range of film credits. In 1993 he appeared in Leprechaun alongside Jennifer Aniston, and in 1997 he had a role in the James Cameron film Titanic.
