About
Sharon Shore was a performer whose career spanned ballet, musical theater, opera, television, and modeling. She began her dance training in the Oakland area, and in March 1950 she was among five Oakland dancers who performed with the San Francisco Ballet at the Hayes Street auditorium. That program included Romeo and Juliet and Vivaldi Concerto. By May 1953 Shore was part of a troupe that performed in a ballet called Ballentine, and that October she appeared in The Creatures of Prometheus, a production presented by the Los Angeles Opera. Choreographed by Willam Christensen, the work featured Shore among the court of Apollo, a role danced by John Mallozzi, and Beverly Sills was also in the cast.
Shore's theater career developed alongside her ballet work. In 1951 she danced in a San Francisco production of Bloomer Girl, which starred Dick Haymes. In December 1955 she appeared in The Thousand and Second Night, a musical comedy produced by Jack Yellen and performed at the Versailles night club at 151 East 50th Street in New York City. The production featured Jack Cassidy and Eddie Lawrence, and Shore stepped in to substitute for Neile Adams during an illness. She also performed at the Copacabana during this period.
Shore's Broadway career ran from 1956 to 1959 and included two musicals. She was a dancer in the original Broadway run of Li'l Abner, which played 693 performances at the St. James Theatre from November 15, 1956 to July 12, 1958. She also appeared on Broadway in Destry Rides Again. During the 1950s Shore was a member of the June Taylor Dancers on the Jackie Gleason Show. In 1965 she appeared as Betti in the screen comedy The Art of Love, directed by Norman Jewison and released by Cherokee Productions.
Shore was married to producer Sam Denoff. They had two children together, Melissa Denoff and Matthew Denoff, and Shore also had two stepchildren from his first marriage, Leslie Denoff and producer Douglas Denoff.
