Sharon McNight

Sharon McNight is an American singer, actress, and director whose career has spanned stage, film, and television. She received a Theatre World Award and a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for her work in the 1989 Broadway production of Starmites.

McNight began her professional career in San Francisco, where she worked in cabaret performance. In 1976, she wrote and directed a film adaptation of the erotic novel The Autobiography of a Flea. As a recording artist, she released six studio albums over the course of her career. Her regional theater work includes productions of Hello, Dolly! and Nunsense.

McNight first performed in Starmites as part of its off-Broadway run in 1987. The fantasy musical transferred to Broadway in 1989, where her performance earned her both a Theatre World Award and a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. The production received a positive reception upon its Broadway opening.

Her film appearances include Behind the Green Door: the Sequel (1986), Corporate Affairs (1990), Me Myself and I (1992), My Neighbor's Daughter (1998), and Guinevere (1999). On television, McNight made guest-starring appearances on Seinfeld and Silk Stalkings. During the 2000s and 2010s, she portrayed Sophie Tucker in multiple productions of the musical Red Hot Mama.
