About
Shannon Elaine Cochran is an American actress born in 1958 or 1959 in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she attended Page High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Cochran. After enrolling at Wake Forest University, she left to pursue a career in acting and subsequently earned a degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 1982.
Cochran launched her professional acting career in theaters in Cincinnati and Memphis. In 1984 she toured with a revue that traveled to the Bahamas, Boston, California, and Miami. Her work has taken her to multiple theaters across the United States and Europe.
Her Broadway career spans 2009 to 2019 and includes three productions. She appeared in August: Osage County in 2009, Cabaret in 2016, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in 2019. Cochran received a Theatre World Award in 2004.
On screen, Cochran is widely recognized for portraying Anna Morgan, the mysterious antagonist in the 2002 horror film The Ring. She also appeared in the television series The Office, playing Pam Beesly's mother in the episode "Sexual Harassment," a role later recast with Linda Purl. Cochran is married to actor Michael Canavan.
