About

Seth Numrich is an American actor born on January 19, 1987, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who works across stage, television, and film. His father, Charles Numrich, is an actor who founded the nonprofit theatre company Creative Theater Unlimited in 1981, operating it until 2008. Numrich trained at The Juilliard School, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting in 2006 as part of Group 36. At the time of his admission, he was the youngest person ever accepted into Juilliard's Drama Division, a distinction previously held by actor Val Kilmer. Alongside his early training, Numrich served as a teaching artist for Artists Striving to End Poverty from 2005 to 2012.

Numrich's Broadway career spans from 2010 to 2022. He made his Broadway debut playing Lorenzo in the 2010 revival of The Merchant of Venice, a performance that earned him the Theatre World Dorothy Loudon Award for Excellence in 2011. He subsequently appeared at Lincoln Center Theater on Broadway in two productions: as the boxer Joe Bonaparte in Golden Boy and as Albert in War Horse. In 2018, he joined the Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway production of Tom Stoppard's Travesties, and in 2022 he appeared in the Broadway premiere of Stoppard's Leopoldstadt.

Beyond Broadway, Numrich has accumulated extensive Off-Broadway credits. At Rattlestick Playwrights Theater he appeared in Slipping, Yosemite, and Blind, and at Rising Phoenix Repertory he performed in Too Much Memory, Favorites, and Break Your Face on My Hand. His work with Signature Theatre Company includes On the Levee and Iphigenia 2.0, while additional Off-Broadway appearances include Gates of Gold at 59E59 Theaters and Dutch Masters with LAByrinth Theater Company. Regional credits include The History Boys as Dakin at the Ahmanson Theatre, The Cure at Troy as Neoptolemus at Seattle Repertory Theatre, and Measure for Measure as the Duke at Chautauqua Theatre Company, as well as The Judgment of Paris, which played both the NYC Fringe Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Internationally, Numrich starred opposite Kim Cattrall in Tennessee Williams's Sweet Bird of Youth at The Old Vic in London's West End in 2013. In 2023, he performed in Irish Repertory Theatre's staging of Brian Friel's Translations, and in 2024 he appeared in the world premiere of J. T. Rogers' Corruption at Lincoln Center Theater.

On screen, Numrich played the lead role of cadet Sam Singleton/Romeo in Private Romeo, a 2011 film adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet directed by Alan Brown. He and five fellow cast members collectively received the Outstanding Actor in a Feature Film award at L.A. Outfest in 2011 for that work. He is also known for portraying Benjamin Tallmadge in AMC's Turn: Washington's Spies, a role he held from 2014 to 2017, and for playing Robin Lafferty in the miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven in 2022. Additional television appearances include Gravity, The Good Wife, Homeland, and Madam Secretary. In the audiobook format, Numrich has recorded unabridged readings of two Stephen King novels: Later in 2021 and Fairy Tale in 2022.
