About
Sean Allan Krill is an American actor and singer born on June 10, 1971, in Altus, Oklahoma. A self-described "Air Force brat," he spent his childhood moving frequently before settling primarily in Shelby Township, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. A touring production of Les Misérables at The Fisher Theater sparked his decision to pursue a career in acting. He went on to study at Wayne State University, where he was awarded the Lily Tomlin Scholarship for Theatre, and later graduated from Wayne State University College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts.
Following his graduation, Krill relocated to Chicago to join the original Chicago company of Forever Plaid in 1994, playing the role of Sparky. He remained based in Chicago for more than fifteen years, building an extensive regional theater career at venues including the Royal George Theater, Marriott Theatre, Drury Lane Theatre, Court Theater, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Cadillac Palace Theatre, and the Nederlander Theatre, among others.
Krill made his Broadway debut in 2008 as Sam Carmichael in Mamma Mia! His Broadway career has spanned from 2001 to 2025 and has included productions such as Thoroughly Modern Millie, Chess, Floyd Collins, and Parade. He originated the role of Steve Healy in Jagged Little Pill, the musical featuring music by Alanis Morissette, earning a 2020 Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical. The cast recording of that production received the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Krill also appeared in Parade at both New York City Center and at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on Broadway, performing alongside actor Harry Bouvy.
In his personal life, Krill's partner of thirteen years, actor Guy Adkins, died on May 12, 2010, following a fifteen-month illness with colon cancer. Krill and actor Harry Bouvy, who had each lost a partner, later married in 2015. The two have also worked together professionally, appearing in regional productions of Boeing-Boeing and White Christmas in addition to their shared credit in Parade. Krill currently lives in New York, New York, and has worked across Broadway, Off-Broadway, film, television, and regional theater throughout his career.
