About
Scott Schwartz is an American actor born on May 12, 1968, who grew up in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey, attending Eisenhower Junior High School and later Bridgewater-Raritan High School West, where his classmates included future professional basketball player Eric Murdock. He also attended the Professional Children's School from 1983 to 1985. Originally from Sacramento, California, Schwartz built an early career that spanned stage and screen across multiple decades.
Schwartz made his Broadway appearance in 1981, performing in Frankenstein. His stage work coincided with a period of significant film activity, as he went on to appear in several notable productions throughout the early 1980s. In 1982, he co-starred alongside Richard Pryor and Jackie Gleason in The Toy, directed by Richard Donner, and that same year filmed Kidco under the direction of Ronald F. Maxwell, which was released in 1984. His most enduring screen credit came in 1983, when he portrayed Flick in A Christmas Story, the character whose tongue becomes stuck to a frozen flagpole. In 1985, he appeared opposite Liza Minnelli, Corey Haim, and Jeffrey DeMunn in the television film A Time to Live.
A personal connection to entertainment history runs through Schwartz's family: his father served as Elvis Presley's U.S. Army company clerk in Germany between 1958 and 1960. During the 1990s, Schwartz worked in the adult film industry in both on-screen and administrative capacities before departing that field in 1999.
Beginning in 2006, Schwartz returned to acting and also contributed to the sports memorabilia industry, helping develop a line of celebrity-based trading cards for Donruss and obtaining celebrity autographs for companies including Upper Deck, Razor, Leaf, and In the Game. In 2008, he wrote for the sports card magazine Beckett and appeared on the cover of the September 2008 issue of Sports Card Monthly alongside Darren McFadden and Josh Hamilton. Following the death of his former castmate Corey Haim in March 2010, Schwartz sold Haim's personal belongings on eBay at the request of the Haim family. He also served as president of A Minor Consideration, a child actors' advocacy organization founded in 1990 by actor Paul Petersen. In 2022, Schwartz reprised the role of Flick in A Christmas Story Christmas, the sequel produced for Warner Bros. Pictures and HBO Max.
