About

Scott Salmon (January 13, 1943 – July 17, 1993) was an American dancer, musical theatre actor, and choreographer who earned both Tony Award and Emmy Award nominations over the course of his career. A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, he attended the University of Oklahoma, where he completed a bachelor's degree in music education in 1965.

Salmon's Broadway performing career spanned from 1966 to 1972. He was a dancer in the original Broadway cast of Mame in 1966, which starred Angela Lansbury, and went on to portray multiple roles in George M! in 1968. His additional Broadway credits as a performer included Promises, Promises, in which he appeared as a dancer, the role of Jack in the 1972 revue That's Entertainment, and Pousse-Café.

Following his years as a Broadway performer, Salmon built a substantial career as a choreographer. He served as a choreographer for the Miss America pageant over an extended period. His work on the original Broadway production of La Cage aux Folles earned him a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Choreography at the 38th Tony Awards in 1984. He subsequently choreographed the 57th Academy Awards ceremony, a project that brought him a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography at the 37th Primetime Emmy Awards. Salmon also choreographed the musical sequences in the 1988 film Torch Song Trilogy. Beginning in 1990, he served as choreographer for Radio City Music Hall's Christmas and Easter shows, a position he held until his death.

Salmon died on July 17, 1993, in Northridge, California, at the age of 50, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
