Scott Lowell is an American actor born on February 22, 1965, in Denver, Colorado, where he was adopted. His biological parents are Pentecostal, while his adoptive parents are Jewish. He grew up outside New Haven, Connecticut, attending Hopkins School before going on to Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut. Following college, he relocated to Chicago to pursue a career in acting.

Lowell is widely recognized for his portrayal of Ted Schmidt on the Showtime drama Queer as Folk. His theater work includes a Broadway appearance in 2014 in The Elephant Man.

Away from his performance career, Lowell serves on the board of the Tyler Clementi Foundation.
