About
Scott Kellerman Foley is an American actor, director, and producer born on July 15, 1972, in Kansas City, Kansas. The eldest of three sons born to Constance and Hugh Foley, he spent portions of his childhood in Japan and Australia, where his father worked as an international banker. The family relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, when Foley was 15, the same year his mother died from ovarian cancer. He attended Ladue High School before completing his secondary education at Clayton High School. His ancestry is Northern European, encompassing English, German, Irish, and Scottish heritage.
Foley's television breakthrough came through the role of Noel Crane on Felicity, a series on which he also directed one episode titled "The Graduate." He went on to play Sean Kelly, Elliot Reid's boyfriend, in recurring appearances on Scrubs, and portrayed Cliff in guest spots on Dawson's Creek. A four-season starring role as Sergeant First Class Bob Brown on the CBS military drama The Unit followed, during which he also directed one episode. He later joined ABC's Scandal as Captain Jake Ballard, first appearing as a guest in the second season before being elevated to a series regular. He additionally directed three episodes of that series. Foley led the cast of ABC's Whiskey Cavalier, which premiered on February 27, 2019, and ran for one season, and guest starred in the ABC police drama The Rookie in 2020. Earlier television work included a guest appearance on Grey's Anatomy, a recurring role on Cougar Town as a businessman pursued romantically by Courteney Cox's character Jules, and a guest role on House as a drug-addicted baseball pitcher.
In film, Foley is widely recognized for playing Roman Bridger in Scream 3, released in 2000, a performance that earned him a Teen Choice Award nomination. In January 2025, it was announced he would return for Scream 7. He also produced the sitcom A.U.S.A., in which he appeared. His feature film directorial debut came in 2013 with Let's Kill Ward's Wife, which he also wrote. The film starred his wife, Marika Domińczyk, his sister-in-law Dagmara Domińczyk, his brother-in-law Patrick Wilson, Donald Faison, Amy Acker, and Nicollette Sheridan.
On the stage, Foley appeared on Broadway in The Violet Hour and The Thanksgiving Play, with his Broadway career spanning 2003 to 2023.
In his personal life, Foley married actress Jennifer Garner on October 19, 2000, having met her when she guest-starred on Felicity. The two separated in March 2003, and Garner filed for divorce in May 2003. Foley became engaged to Polish-born actress Marika Domińczyk in 2006, and the couple married in a private ceremony in Hawaii in June 2007. They have three children together. His sister-in-law, Dagmara Domińczyk, is married to actor Patrick Wilson. An episode of the genealogy program Who Do You Think You Are? revealed that Foley's ancestry includes Samuel Wardwell, a defendant in the Salem witch trials, and Simon Wardwell, a member of George Washington's Life Guard during the Revolutionary War.
