About

Sasha Hutchings is an American actress and dancer born on December 21, 1988, in Macon, Georgia. Her father, Dr. William Hutchings, is of African-American descent and works as a doctor, while her mother is a news anchor and teacher. Hutchings began taking dance lessons at age three, and by her senior year of high school, her dance studio director encouraged her to pursue dance professionally. She graduated from Central High School's Fine Arts and International Baccalaureate program in 2007 and went on to attend Oklahoma City University, where she majored in dance performance at the Ann Lacy School of Dance, completing her degree in 2011.

Before arriving on Broadway, Hutchings built her performance experience through regional productions at the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, appearing in shows including Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, Oliver!, Hairspray, Ragtime, and A Chorus Line, in which she played Diana Morales. Her Broadway debut came on December 13, 2011, when she joined the cast of Memphis as a swing at the Shubert Theatre, remaining with the production until it closed on August 5, 2012. She next originated three roles — Claudette Robinson, Billie Jean Brown, and Marvelette — as a swing in the Broadway production of Motown: The Musical at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, performing from March 11 to December 22, 2013, and returning for an additional run from September 30 to October 19, 2014. Also in 2013, Hutchings appeared as a dancer in five episodes of the second season of the NBC musical television series Smash.

In 2014, Hutchings joined the original Broadway cast of Rocky at the Winter Garden Theatre, performing in the ensemble and playing Apollo Girl from February 13 to August 17 of that year. She then became part of the original cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, serving as an ensemble member and understudy for the roles of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds. Hutchings performed during the show's Off-Broadway run at The Public Theater from January 20 to May 3, 2015, before reprising her roles when the production transferred to Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre beginning July 13, 2015. She remained with the Broadway company until August 27, 2016. Hamilton received widespread critical recognition, winning eleven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and eight Drama Desk Awards. The filmed version of the production, featuring Hutchings in the ensemble, was released on Disney+ on July 3, 2020.

During the 2016–2017 season, Hutchings guest-starred as Ariel Rice in one episode of the CBS series Blue Bloods and appeared in the Off-Broadway revival of Sweet Charity at The Pershing Square Signature Center, playing Rosie and performing as an ensemble member alongside Sutton Foster. That production, presented by The New Group, ran from November 2, 2016, to January 8, 2017. In 2017, she played Kathy Selden in the ZACH Theatre's production of Singin' in the Rain in Austin, Texas, from September 27 to October 29. That same year, she made her film debut as a secretary in The Vanishing of Sidney Hall and made a guest appearance as Amelia in the Netflix comedy series Master of None.

Hutchings joined the original ensemble cast of the 2018 Broadway revival of My Fair Lady beginning March 15, 2018, departing on March 10, 2019. Also in 2018, she appeared as Kourtney, a backup dancer, in one episode of Netflix's Marvel series Jessica Jones, and as Annie Tran in one episode of the Amazon Prime Video series The Dangerous Book for Boys. From March 19, 2019, to January 19, 2020, she understudied the roles of Ado Annie Carnes, Laurey Williams, and the lead dancer in the 2019 Broadway revival of Oklahoma!, which won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical that year. Additional television credits from this period include a dancer role in an episode of the FX miniseries Fosse/Verdon in 2019 and the role of Colleen in an episode of the Freeform comedy series The Bold Type in 2020.

Hutchings contributed to the 2024 concept album Warriors by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis, on which she plays the role of Cowgirl. Beyond her performance work, she is a member of the Epic Theatre Ensemble's Artist Advisory Council and regularly leads dance workshops and master classes. In August 2020, she was among the Hamilton cast members who organized Ham4Change, a virtual fundraiser that raised over one million dollars for charities supporting African Americans. She also co-hosted a virtual fundraiser concert with fellow Hamilton cast member Jonathan Groff in support of the Democratic Georgia Senate Runoff campaigns of Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock on December 13, 2020. Beginning in October 2020, Hutchings and Hamilton colleague Nik Walker began co-hosting an online talk show called The Chaos Twins, broadcast every other Wednesday.
