About
Sarah Uriarte Berry is an American actress and singer born on May 31, 1969, in San Francisco, California. She graduated from UCLA in 1992 and has maintained an active career on Broadway, in national tours, and in regional theatre from 1987 through at least 2009.
Berry made her Broadway debut in the role of Eponine in Les Misérables in 1993, a part she returned to in 1997. In 1995 she took on the role of Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and she reprised that role beginning September 19, 2006, remaining with the production through December 24, 2006. Her Broadway work also includes Taboo, which ran from October 2003 to February 2004, and The Light in the Piazza in 2005, where she played Franca. That performance earned her nominations for both the Drama Desk Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical. She later served as a standby for Alice Ripley in the role of Diana in Next to Normal on Broadway, going on in the role on February 19, 2010, alongside her husband Michael Berry, who performed the role of Dan that evening.
Beyond Broadway, Berry has accumulated substantial credits in national tours and regional productions. Regional credits include West Side Story at The Muny in St. Louis in June 2000, Thoroughly Modern Millie at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2000, A Little Night Music as Anne at the Kennedy Center in 2002, The Sound of Music at the Helen Hayes Theatre Company in Nyack, New York in 2002, and Oklahoma! at the Sacramento Music Circus from July 27 through August 1, 2004. In 2004 she also starred in the title role of Cinderella alongside Eartha Kitt for the New York City Opera.
Berry reprised the role of Franca in a production of The Light in the Piazza at the Weston Playhouse Theatre in Weston, Vermont, which ran from July 10 through 26, 2008, with her husband Michael playing Roy. She starred as Sharon in the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Master Class, which ran from March 4 through April 5, 2009. In 2011 she played Magnolia in the Goodspeed Opera House production of Show Boat, which ran from July through September of that year, with her daughter Madeleine appearing in the same production as Young Kim. In October 2022, Berry joined the Disney Princess – The Concert tour after Susan Egan was unable to continue performing following a diagnosis of Bell's Palsy. In April and May of 2023, she played Countess Charlotte Malcolm in a revival of A Little Night Music at the Pasadena Playhouse.
