About

Sarah Saltzberg is an American actress, singer, and writer who grew up in Needham, Massachusetts. She completed her training in theatre performance at Boston University and has built a career spanning Broadway, Off-Broadway, film, television, and comedy. In addition to her work in the performing arts, she holds a license as a real estate broker in New York City.

Saltzberg made her Broadway debut in 2005 originating the role of Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, with music and lyrics by William Finn and a book by Rachel Sheinkin. She had first developed the character with the improvisational comedy troupe The Farm, whose work formed the foundation of the production before it transferred to Broadway. Her connection to the show had an earlier, indirect dimension as well: she had worked as a weekend nanny for playwright Wendy Wasserstein, whose influence helped bring Finn and Sheinkin onto the creative team. For her performance in Spelling Bee, Saltzberg received the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance in 2005.

Her Off-Broadway credits include the role of Helen in The Donkey Show, Cherry in Sinfully Rich, and Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 2005 she also performed a one-woman show, Dear Diary: The Making of Logainne Schwartzandgrubenairre, presented as part of the Broadway Spotlight Series at Ars Nova. She has performed long-form improvisational comedy with the Upright Citizens Brigade throughout New York City. In 2007 she starred in and produced Don't Quit Your Night Job, an improvisation and sketch comedy show staged at the Ha! Comedy Club in New York City. Saltzberg is also a writer of the Off-Broadway comedy Miss Abigail's Guide to Dating, Mating, and Marriage, which ran at the Downstairs Cabaret Theatre at Sofia's from October 24, 2010 through June 30, 2012.

On screen, Saltzberg appeared in the film City Island in the role of the Casting Director. In 2024 she appeared in two episodes of the Broadway Podcast Network's audio drama Around the Sun, written by Brad Forenza, as part of Season 4: Artists Within, a collection of short plays set amid the cosmos featuring writer-performers in leading roles.

Beyond performing and writing, Saltzberg has taught improvisational comedy to students in kindergarten through fifth grade at P.S. 6 on the Upper East Side of Manhattan for more than a decade.
