About
Sarah Moyle is an English actress born on 14 September 1969, whose career spans theatre, television, and writing across more than three decades. She trained at Bodywork Dance Studios, earned a BA in Performance Art from Middlesex University, and spent six months studying at the State University of New York. Between 1988 and 1991, she was a member of the National Youth Theatre.
Moyle's professional stage career began in 1992 with Lust at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, directed by Bob Carlton. Her early theatre work included productions of An Inspector Calls, Oliver!, Les Misérables, and My Fair Lady, as well as appearances in Drowning on Dry Land and Private Fears in Public Places, the latter written for her by Sir Alan Ayckbourn. Her television debut came in 1997 in an episode of the BBC sitcom The Brittas Empire, followed by minor appearances in Roger Roger, Born and Bred, City Lights, and Ultimate Force. From 2006 to 2007, she held a recurring role in the BBC comedy series Extras.
In 2009, Moyle played Linda Fawcett in Jerusalem, first at the Royal Court Theatre and then at the Apollo Theatre. The production subsequently transferred to Broadway at the Music Box Theatre, where Moyle appeared in 2011, marking her Broadway debut.
In 2012, Moyle joined the BBC daytime soap opera Doctors, making her first appearance as receptionist Valerie Pitman on 15 October 2012. The role began as a recurring one across several brief stints before viewer response led to her promotion to a regular cast member. During gaps in her Doctors schedule, she continued working in theatre, appearing in The Schoolmistress, A Bunch of Amateurs, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. At the 2016 British Soap Awards, she received nominations for both Best Female Dramatic Performance and Best Comedy Performance. In 2019, she won Best Comedy Performance at the same awards. Moyle also expanded into writing during her time on the series, penning the episode "The Wager," which aired on 31 May 2018, and a second episode titled "Targeted Individual" in 2020. She announced her departure from Doctors in August 2022, with her final episode airing on 16 December 2022.
Following her exit from the series, Moyle appeared in an episode of the BritBox period drama Sister Boniface Mysteries and toured the UK in Jumping the Shark. She then appeared in two Royal Shakespeare Company productions, The Empress and Falkland Sound, before starring in the King's Head Theatre's 2024 production of the queer comedy Northbound Boy. Later in 2024, she returned to My Fair Lady, this time in the roles of Mrs Eynsford-Hill and Mrs Pearce at the Curve Theatre. In 2025, she portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in Handbagged at the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch, and joined a touring production of Inside No. 9 Stage/Fright.
Beyond her performance work, Moyle has engaged in charitable activity on several occasions. In September 2018, she cycled 282 kilometres across Rwanda to raise money and awareness for Hope and Homes for Children. She ran the 2000 London Marathon to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society, for which she is also an advocate. In 2020, she cycled 46 miles around London to raise money for Embracing Arts, a charity of which she is patron.
