About

Sarah Goldberg is a Canadian actress born on May 31, 1985, in Vancouver, British Columbia, into a Jewish family. Drawn to performance from an early age, she took part in theatrical productions during high school. Following a period backpacking through Europe, she was accepted to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in 2004 and relocated to London, supporting herself through work as a waitress and babysitter while training.

After graduating from LAMDA, Goldberg made her professional stage debut in a production of Carson McCullers' The Member of the Wedding at the Young Vic. She supplemented her stage work with voice-over recordings, motion capture for video games, and instructional videos. Her London theatre career expanded with appearances at the Bush Theatre in Apologia in 2009, at the Finborough Theatre in Bekah Brunstetter's Miss Lilly Gets Boned, and at the Old Vic in John Guare's Six Degrees of Separation.

In 2011, Goldberg was cast in Bruce Norris' Clybourne Park at the Royal Court Theatre, where she originated the dual role of Betsey/Lindsey. The performance earned her a nomination for the 2011 Olivier Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She subsequently brought the same production to Broadway in 2012. Around that time, she also portrayed Alison Porter in Sam Gold's off-Broadway revival of John Osborne's Look Back in Anger, appearing opposite Adam Driver and Matthew Rhys, and followed that with a role in Amy Herzog's The Great God Pan at Playwrights Horizons.

Goldberg's screen work includes small roles in the films A Bunch of Amateurs (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012), as well as a starring role in the comedy-drama series Hindsight (2015). She became widely recognized for playing Sally Reed, a struggling actress, in the HBO tragicomedy crime series Barry, which ran from 2018 to 2023. The role brought her a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2019. More recently, she co-wrote and starred in Sisters, and in 2024 took on the recurring role of Petra Koenig in the third season of the HBO comedy-drama series Industry.
