About
Sarah Marie Glendening, born September 20, 1982, is an American actress whose career has spanned Broadway, regional theater, television, and film. She made her Broadway debut in 2005 in Good Vibrations, performing as part of the ensemble and understudying the role of Caroline. Her future husband, Brandon Wardell, appeared in the same production playing the lead role of Dave.
Before her Broadway debut, Glendening trained at Carnegie Mellon University, where she appeared in several productions including Wild Party, a show she shared with classmate Megan Hilty, as well as Me and My Girl, Hello, Dolly!, and The Music Man. The Music Man production was later featured in the 2006 mockumentary Pittsburgh, which starred Jeff Goldblum, Ed Begley Jr., Illeana Douglas, and Moby, with additional appearances by Conan O'Brien, Ashley Judd, Alanis Morissette, Tom Cavanagh, and Courtney Lopez.
Glendening's regional theater work includes playing the lead role of Susan in tick, tick...BOOM at the Adirondack Theatre Festival in Glens Falls, New York, in July 2007. The production was received well enough that the company added an extra performance, the first time in its thirteen-year history that had occurred. In the spring of 2008, she originated the role of Diana in the world premiere of Mask, a stage adaptation of the film of the same name, at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California. That same summer, she performed with Joe Iconis and The Black Suits alongside Krysta Rodriguez at The Summer Play Festival in New York City. From April 13 to May 23, 2010, she portrayed Molly in the world premiere of Nightmare Alley, adapted from William Lindsay Gresham's novel of the same name, at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. Later that year, from October 29 to November 4, 2010, she took part in the stage workshop production of Loveless, Texas with Boomerang Theatre Company at Peter Jay Sharp Theater in New York City. In December 2013, she performed in the Open Fist Theatre Company production of BOTH: A Hard Day's Silent Night, a Beatles Nativity, in Los Angeles. Glendening has also participated in Neil Patrick Harris's interactive theater experience Accomplice: The Show in both Los Angeles and New York City.
In the fall of 2012, Glendening and her husband Brandon served as production managers on Delusion: The Blood Rite, an interactive haunted play in Los Angeles created by Hollywood stuntman Jon Braver and produced by Neil Patrick Harris. The couple went on to produce the third installment of Braver's Haunted Play series, Delusion: The Masque of Mortality, in fall 2013, and the fourth iteration, Delusion: Lies Within, in 2014.
Glendening began her daytime television career with a guest appearance on Guiding Light before joining the CBS soap opera As the World Turns in 2008. She became the fifth actress to portray Lucy Montgomery, replacing Spencer Grammer, and appeared on a recurring basis across several stints: from December 24, 2008 to January 7, 2009; from February 26, 2009 to May 13, 2009; and again from July 22, 2010 to August 13, 2010, before the series was cancelled in September 2010. Following that cancellation, it was announced in October 2010 that she would replace Brittany Allen in the role of Marissa Tasker on All My Children, making her the second actress to play the character, who is the ex-wife of JR Chandler and the long-lost twin sister of the deceased Babe Carey. Glendening first appeared in the role on December 27, 2010, and remained with the series through its finale in September 2011. Her character Marissa entered a same-sex relationship with the character Bianca Montgomery, and the pairing attracted a substantial fan following who referred to the couple as Minx. Glendening has also appeared in guest roles on Cold Case and Law and Order: Criminal Intent.
Her film work includes the 2009 independent romantic comedy The Good Guy, opposite Alexis Bledel, Andrew McCarthy, Anna Chlumsky, Bryan Greenberg, Colin Egglesfield, and Denise Vasi, which screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. In May 2011, she was cast as Mandi in Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie, based on the cult web series of the same name, starring alongside Jeremy Suarez and the film's writer, director, producer, and lead James Rolfe; the film premiered at the Grauman's Egyptian Theatre in 2014. In 2012, she appeared opposite Eric Roberts in the satirical short Heal Thyself, which premiered at The Hollywood Film Festival and was used as a discussion piece at a healthcare forum at UCLA's Labor Center. She also appeared in Gala & Godfrey: The Classics, released in 2014, which marked the on-screen introduction of her daughter Wendy, who was only a few days old at the time of filming.
Glendening has a longstanding association with New York City musical theater writer Joe Iconis, having performed in multiple concerts and shows connected to his work. She has also performed in showcases for composer and lyricist Adam Gwon. Her voice appears on the cast recording of Things to Ruin and on the 30th Anniversary Production recording of Annie: The Broadway Musical.
