About

Sara Gettelfinger is an American actress, singer, and dancer born around 1977 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was raised in Kentucky and Jeffersonville, Indiana, and completed her secondary education at the Youth Performing Arts School at duPont Manual High School in 1995. She went on to earn a BFA from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 1999.

Within three weeks of relocating to New York City, Gettelfinger secured her first professional acting role, playing April in the Helen Hayes Theatre Company's production of Stephen Sondheim's Company in Nyack, New York. She subsequently performed in regional theater throughout the country, including productions at Paper Mill Playhouse, the Great Lakes Theater Festival, North Shore Music Theatre, and the Old Globe Theatre, before making her Broadway debut as Bird Girl in the musical Seussical at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2000. That same year she appeared on Broadway in Anything Goes at the Vivian Beaumont Theater and performed off-Broadway in Tenderloin for City Center Encores!

Her first Broadway starring role came in Nine at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre in 2003, where she initially played Maria before taking over the role of Carla from Jane Krakowski. She also understudied the roles of Stephanie and Carla during the production, which starred Antonio Banderas. In 2002 she had appeared on Broadway in The Boys from Syracuse at the American Airlines Theatre, playing Courtesan and understudying Luce.

Gettelfinger originated the role of Jolene Oakes in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Imperial Theatre, beginning in 2005, alongside John Lithgow, Sherie Rene Scott, Gregory Jbara, and Joanna Gleason. She had previously developed the role at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in 2004. During her run in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, she stepped away briefly to play Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale in the world premiere of Grey Gardens at Playwrights Horizons off-Broadway in 2006, a role later taken by Erin Davie when the production transferred to Broadway. Additional Broadway credits include A Free Man of Color and The Family, in which she starred, as well as Water for Elephants at the Imperial Theatre in 2024, where she played Barbara.

Gettelfinger played Morticia Addams in the first national tour of The Addams Family, which ran from September 2011 through December 2012. She also appeared as Cruella de Vil in the national tour of 101 Dalmatians Musical in 2010 and was a featured performer in the first national tour of Fosse from 1999 to 2000. Regional credits from later in her career include Alexandra Spofford in The Witches of Eastwick at Ogunquit Playhouse in 2014, Star in The Cher Show at Ogunquit Playhouse in 2022, and Morticia Addams at Broadway At Music Circus in Sacramento in 2023.

Gettelfinger is a founding member of the vocal trio Three Graces, which combines Broadway, opera, and pop influences through its three members: Gettelfinger representing Broadway, Joy Kabanuck representing opera, and Kelly Levesque representing pop. The group gave its first public performance on October 29, 2007, at the second annual Cole Porter-Like Salon, a Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS benefit. In early 2008, Three Graces toured the United States, Canada, and Mexico with Paul Potts, performing in 20 cities, and released their debut album on March 4, 2008.

Her television appearances include a role on Guiding Light, a guest spot as Erin in the Ed episode "Best Wishes," which aired January 30, 2004, and a role as Debbie in the Without a Trace episode "The Line," which aired February 5, 2004.
