Sanjit de Silva

Sanjit de Silva is a Sri Lankan actor and director born on October 31, 1976, in Colombo. He pursued his training at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

De Silva's screen career began with the television series American Desi, in which he played the role of Chandu. He subsequently appeared in Jonny Zero and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2005, both times in the role of a doctor. His work within the Law & Order franchise extended further, with a role as V.J. in season 5, episode 2 of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, titled "Diamond Dogs," and a role as Ali Mohammed in season 17, episode 15 of Law & Order, titled "Melting Pot." He is also known for his appearances in the films The Company Men and American Desi.

On Broadway, de Silva appeared in War Horse in 2011. His stage work has continued off-Broadway and in prominent New York theater venues. In 2016, he was part of Thomas Kail's world premiere production of Dry Powder at The Public Theater, appearing alongside Hank Azaria, Claire Danes, and John Krasinski. That same summer, he performed in Troilus and Cressida at New York's Shakespeare in the Park and appeared in television commercials on the production's behalf. In 2018, he starred as Azeem Bhatti in An Ordinary Muslim, written by Hammaad Chaudry, at the New York Theatre Workshop.

Behind the camera, de Silva directed his first film, Time After, in 2013, financing the project through Kickstarter with contributions from more than 200 backers. He is married to British-Indian actress Deepa Purohit, and the couple has one child.
