Samuel B. Hardy was born on March 21, 1883, in New Haven, Connecticut, and died on October 16, 1935. He was an American actor whose career spanned both the stage and screen, encompassing Broadway productions, silent films, and early sound-era motion pictures.

Hardy attended Yale before leaving to pursue a career as a stage actor. His Broadway work extended from 1904 to 1921 and included a range of productions across multiple genres. Among his stage credits were the play The Charm School, the musical The Canary, the musical The Riviera Girl, the revue Ziegfeld Follies of 1918, and the play Kiki. He also appeared opposite Marie Cahill in the 1910 play Judy Forgot.

Hardy transitioned into film through Biograph Studios and went on to appear in approximately 85 movies between 1915 and 1935, frequently taking on comedic roles. He reprised his stage work alongside Marie Cahill in the 1915 film adaptation of Judy Forgot. Among his most recognized screen performances is the role of Charles Weston, a theatrical agent, in the 1933 film King Kong. Beyond his own performing career, Hardy was among those who raised funds for Harold Lloyd's Beverly Hills Little Theatre for Professionals.

Hardy became ill during production of the film Shoot the Chutes, which starred Eddie Cantor. He underwent emergency surgery for intestinal problems but did not survive the procedure, dying on October 16, 1935.
