About
Mary Sally Home, born on 27 September 1930 in Southsea, was a British actress whose work spanned stage, television, and radio across several decades. She died on 3 March 1992 in Devizes St Mary, Wiltshire, at the age of 61.
Home's stage career included a Broadway appearance in 1956, during which she performed in three productions: Macbeth, Romeo + Juliet, and King Richard II. Her West End work included a 1965 production of Jean Anouilh's The Cavern, in which she appeared alongside Alec McCowen, Griffith Jones, Geoffrey Bayldon, and Siobhan McKenna. In 1971 she took part in a staging of Noël Coward's Tonight at 8.30, sharing the stage with Millicent Martin. Among her other stage roles was Carla in Robert Muller's Night Conspirators, a production that moved from television to the West End and toured, with Peter Wyngarde also appearing in both versions.
On television, Home worked primarily in straight drama from the 1960s onward, though she also appeared in comedic roles. A notable credit from this period was a 1969 BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens' Dombey and Son, in which she played two distinct characters: Edith Dombey, described as haughty and tragic, and Alice Marwood, Edith's vengeful cousin. In 1964 she appeared in the television series Rupert of Hentzau, where she met actor George Baker; the two married a decade later and had one daughter.
Home's radio work included a recurring role as Claire Nash in Waggoners' Walk NW, a soap opera broadcast on BBC Radio 2.
