About

Sally Champlin, sometimes credited as Sally J. Champlin, is an American actress, director, screenwriter, and singer who has worked across stage, film, and television. She grew up in Mill Valley, California, where she attended Tamalpais High School. Joining the school choir led her to pursue professional voice training, and she participated in multiple productions before graduating in 1962. She subsequently enrolled at San Francisco State College. Her brother is Bill Champlin, a founding member of the 1960s rock band Sons of Champlin and later a member of Chicago.

Champlin made her Broadway appearance in 1969, performing in Cabaret. Her stage career preceded a lengthy run in film and television work spanning several decades. Among her film credits is the 1993 thriller Die Watching, which starred Christopher Atkins, and the 1995 television film An Element of Truth, featuring Donna Mills and Peter Riegert. In 2000 she appeared in the horror film In the Light of the Moon, also released as Ed Gein and starring Steve Railsback, in which she portrayed Mary Hogan, a bar owner and one of Gein's victims. She also played the President of the United States in the 2001 film Perfect Lover, alternatively titled The Woman Every Man Wants.
