About

Sabrina Annlynn Carpenter was born on May 11, 1999, in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, to David and Elizabeth Carpenter, and was raised in East Greenville. She has three older sisters and was homeschooled. Her father is a stepbrother of actress Nancy Cartwright. Carpenter began studying voice at age six and, around age ten, started posting YouTube videos of herself singing songs by Christina Aguilera and Adele. Her father built a recording studio at home to support her early interest in music.

Carpenter's first professional acting credit came in 2011 with a guest role on the NBC drama Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Around the same time, she performed at the Hunan Broadcasting System's Gold Mango Audience Festival in China. She had a recurring role in the Fox sitcom The Goodwin Games in 2012 and appeared as young Merrin Williams in the 2013 film Horns. She also recorded the song "Smile" for the compilation album Disney Fairies: Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust, which charted on Radio Disney, and voiced Princess Vivian on Sofia the First from 2013 to 2018. In October 2008, she had entered The Next Miley Cyrus Project, an online singing contest run by Miley Cyrus, placing third in 2010.

In January 2013, Carpenter was cast as Maya Hart in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World, a spin-off of Boy Meets World. The show ran for 72 episodes before concluding on January 20, 2017, and she recorded its theme song alongside co-star Rowan Blanchard. In 2014, she signed a five-album deal with Hollywood Records and released her debut single, "Can't Blame a Girl for Trying", co-written by Meghan Trainor, followed by a debut EP of the same name. Her first studio album, Eyes Wide Open, was released on April 14, 2015, peaked at number 43 on the Billboard 200, sold over 12,000 copies in its first week, and won two Radio Disney Music Awards. Her second studio album, Evolution, followed in October 2016, debuting at number 28 on the Billboard 200 and selling 13,000 copies in its first week. It included the single "Thumbs", which reached number one on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. In support of that album, Carpenter embarked on her first headlining concert tour, the EVOLution Tour, in autumn 2016.

In June 2016, Carpenter starred as Jenny Parker in the Disney Channel Original Movie Adventures in Babysitting alongside Sofia Carson, and the two performed the film's theme track, "Wildside", together. She also began voicing Melissa Chase on the animated series Milo Murphy's Law. In 2017, she opened for Ariana Grande on the Dangerous Woman Tour in São Paulo and embarked on her second headlining tour, the De-Tour. In March 2018, she released the single "Alien" with DJ Jonas Blue, which reached number one on the US Dance Club Songs chart. Her third studio album, Singular: Act I, followed in November 2018, producing the singles "Almost Love" and "Sue Me", both of which topped the US Dance Club Songs chart. A fourth studio album, Singular: Act II, was released in 2019. That same year, she appeared in the drama film The Short History of the Long Road and starred in the Netflix film Tall Girl. In 2018, she also appeared in the film The Hate U Give.

On Broadway, Carpenter played Cady Heron in the musical Mean Girls, with her appearance taking place in 2018. In 2020, she starred in the Netflix films Work It, which she also executive-produced, and Clouds. She appeared in the Netflix sequel Tall Girl 2 and the film Emergency in 2022.

Carpenter joined Island Records in 2021 and released her fifth studio album, Emails I Can't Send, in 2022, which featured the multi-platinum singles "Nonsense" and "Feather." Her sixth studio album, Short n' Sweet, was released in 2024, debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, and won two Grammy Awards. It produced the global number-one singles "Espresso" and "Please Please Please", the latter becoming her first single to top the US Billboard Hot 100. Her seventh studio album, Man's Best Friend, was released in 2025, also topped the Billboard 200, and spawned the US number-one single "Manchild."
