Ronald Guttman is a Belgian actor, theatrical producer, and film producer born on August 12, 1952, in Uccle, Belgium. His career spans decades of work across Europe and North America, encompassing stage, television, and film.
Guttman began his professional stage career in French-language productions in Europe in 1975. His Broadway work extends from 1987 to 2024 and includes the drama The Patriots as well as Coastal Disturbances. The original production of Coastal Disturbances, written by Tina Howe, dates to 1986 and was an Off-Broadway engagement. His Off-Broadway credits also include The Fifth Column, a play by Ernest Hemingway, and the title role in Dennis McIntyre's Modigliani at Jewish Repertory Theatre. In 2015, Guttman received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Revival of a Musical or Revue.
His first English-language film appearance came in 1983 with Hanna K. Subsequent film roles include Avalon, The Hunt for Red October, On the Basis of Sex, 27 Dresses, The Guru, August Rush, and The Tollbooth. Through his production company, Highbrow Entertainment, Guttman has produced several feature films, among them The Tollbooth, Tickling Leo, New York Street Games, and 30 Beats. Highbrow also served as a co-executive producer on Welcome to the Punch.
On television, Guttman has appeared in Lost, Lipstick Jungle, Heroes, The West Wing, Mad Men, and Hunters, as well as all three series in the Law & Order franchise: Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He held a recurring role as Alexander Cambias Sr. on the daytime soap opera All My Children, appearing in 20 episodes over 18 years. In 2021, he joined the cast of the Epix drama series Godfather of Harlem in a recurring role as French gangster Jean Jehan.
