About
Rochelle Aytes is an American actress and model born in Harlem, New York City. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Purchase. Early in her career, she worked as a model and appeared in commercials for McDonald's, L'Oreal, Coca-Cola, and Mercedes-Benz.
Aytes made her Broadway debut in 2001 in Aida. Her television career began in 2003 with a guest appearance as a hostess on Sex and the City, followed by small roles on Jonny Zero, House of Payne, and Half & Half. Her film debut came in 2004 with the comedy White Chicks, in which she played Denise Porter. She subsequently appeared in Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion as Lisa Breaux, a woman trapped in an abusive relationship with a fiancé portrayed by Blair Underwood, and in the 2006 test pilot episodes of Tyler Perry's House of Payne as Nicole Jamieson.
In 2007, Aytes guest starred on the Fox series Bones as Felicia Saroyan and played Leigh Barnthouse in the Fox series Drive. That same year she appeared in the independent horror film Trick 'r Treat. She also provided the voice of Rochelle in the 2009 video game Left 4 Dead 2. From 2009 to 2010, she was a regular cast member on the ABC drama The Forgotten, playing Detective Grace Russell, who works alongside a volunteer group and a former Chicago police detective played by Christian Slater to identify homicide victims. Also in 2010, she appeared in the TNT drama Dark Blue and took on a recurring role in ABC's Detroit 1-8-7 as prosecutor Alice Williams, a character written out in the January 11, 2011 episode "Key to the City."
In 2011, Aytes guest starred in three episodes of Desperate Housewives as Amber James, the former girlfriend of Keith Watson, during the show's seventh season. She starred in the short-lived ABC sitcom Work It in 2012. That same year she was cast as one of four leads in the ABC drama series Mistresses, alongside Alyssa Milano, Yunjin Kim, and Jes Macallan. The series, which centered on four female friends navigating complex and illicit relationships, premiered on June 3, 2013, and ran through 2016, with Aytes playing April Malloy. The role became one of her most recognized television credits.
In 2013, Aytes portrayed Perri "Pebbles" Reid in the biographical film CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, based on the story of the R&B and hip hop trio TLC. That same year she began appearing on the CBS crime thriller Criminal Minds as Dr. Savannah Hayes, the girlfriend of Special Agent Derek Morgan, played by Shemar Moore. When Moore departed for the CBS action series S.W.A.T., Aytes followed, joining the cast in season three as Nichelle Carmichael, Hondo's girlfriend. She was promoted to the main cast in season six and remained with the series from 2019 to 2024. During her time on S.W.A.T., she also held a recurring role on Hawaii Five-0 as Agent Greer, a former CIA officer.
In 2024, Aytes was cast as a lead in the CBS medical-mystery drama Watson, portraying Dr. Mary Morstan. Her commitment to the new series required her to exit the main cast of S.W.A.T. for its eighth and final season, though she returned as a guest star. Watson premiered in 2025.
