About

Robin Stewart, born Robin Guy Henry Steuer on 9 October 1946 in Calcutta, British India, was an English actor, game show host, and reporter who died on 22 November 2015 at the age of 69. His father, Maximilian Steuer, was Jewish and lived from 1902 to 1978, while his British mother, Dorothy Evelyn Beer, lived from 1906 to 1966.

Stewart's career spanned stage, television, and film across multiple countries. His Broadway work included an appearance in Camelot in 1960. His British film credits encompassed Tamahine, The Haunted House of Horror, Cromwell, Adventures of a Private Eye, and The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires, in which he portrayed Leyland Van Helsing.

Among his most recognized work was the role of Mike Abbott, the son of Sid James's character Sid Abbott, in the British sitcom Bless This House. Stewart held the role throughout the show's complete run from 1971 to 1976. Prior commitments prevented him from appearing in the film adaptation of the series.

Stewart's career later extended to Australia and New Zealand. An initial invitation to participate in a New Zealand telethon led to his hosting his own show there, and he subsequently relocated to Australia. His Australian television work included a role in The Young Doctors, playing a villainous character attempting to silence a blind patient who had overheard his criminal activities, and a role as the villainous doctor Ross Newman in Sons and Daughters. He also appeared in the prison-based soap opera Punishment and took a lead role in the 1981 feature film Pacific Banana. Stewart played John MacArthur in The Timeless Land and appeared in a supporting capacity in the rock series Sweet and Sour for ABC. He co-hosted Good Morning Sydney alongside Maureen Duval and briefly served as advertising executive for Rolling Stone magazine. In early 1990, he co-produced the weekly magazine program Midweek Live for DDQ TV in Toowoomba with presenter Craig Berkman, and for eighteen months he served as senior producer for FNQTV in Cairns.

In his personal life, Stewart had two brief earlier marriages, the second to magazine fashion editor Fiona Partridge. In 2012 he married Roberta "Bertie" Daler, and together they had one daughter. Stewart suffered a stroke in 2003 and developed emphysema, having been a smoker of sixty cigarettes a day. His death was announced on his official website.
