About
Robin Raymond, born Eleanor Rae Robin on October 4, 1916, was an American actress who worked in both Broadway theater and film. Though she later claimed her birth name was Rayemon Robin, census records indicate otherwise. Her father had changed the family surname from Rubin to Robin around 1920. Raymond died on June 20, 1994.
Raymond earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University and subsequently worked as a press agent in Chicago before pursuing a performance career. Her Broadway work included the 1939 production See My Lawyer, in which she played the role of Blossom Le Verne.
In 1941, Raymond signed a contract with MGM, spending a year in incidental roles before transitioning to freelance work. Over the course of her film career she appeared in more than 40 pictures. Her early film credits included Johnny Eager (1942) and Arabian Nights (1942), in which she played a slave girl. Her screen persona typically embodied a hard-boiled glamour type, drawing frequent comparisons to actress Iris Adrian. The resemblance between the two was close enough that when PRC sought a follow-up to Adrian's Shake Hands with Murder and Adrian was unavailable, Raymond was cast as her replacement. That production, Rogues' Gallery (1944), became Raymond's sole starring role. She also appeared in the film noir The Glass Wall (1953), playing a burlesque dancer named Tanya Zakoyla.
Raymond's television credits included an appearance in Episode 32 of Trackdown, set in Alpine, Texas, as well as the 1957 Perry Mason episode "The Case of the Hesitant Hostess" and a 1958 episode of Dragnet titled "The Big Perfume Bottle."
In her personal life, Raymond married nightclub owner Norman E. Heeb in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 15, 1941; the marriage ended in divorce on November 28, 1941. She later married multimillionaire Harry A. Epstein in Yuma, Arizona, on January 26, 1947, and that marriage concluded with a divorce on February 16, 1955.
