Robert Lonsdale is an English actor and musician born on 2 November 1983 in Marsden, West Yorkshire. The son of Tom and Dilys Lonsdale, he has one sister. He trained at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts and won the Carleton Hobbs Bursary. Tim Rice described him as "a young man with enormous talent."

Lonsdale began acting at the age of eight. Among his earliest television appearances was a role on Coronation Street in 2002. He has since worked extensively across stage, television, and radio, including numerous BBC radio productions such as All Quiet on the Western Front, Henry VIII, The Steps, Walter Now, Pilgrim, The Time Machine, The Pattern of Painful Adventures, On the Beach, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

His stage career has spanned prominent venues on both sides of the Atlantic. He appeared in La Bête on the West End and on Broadway in 2010. Other stage credits include Brilliant Adventures as Luke at the Royal Court, A Life at the Finborough Theatre, Anna Christie alongside Jude Law and Ruth Wilson at the Donmar Warehouse, The Indian Wants the Bronx at the Young Vic, and Made in Dagenham. In 2013, he received the Manchester Theatre Award for Best Studio Performance for Brilliant Adventures at the Royal Exchange Studio.

In 2014, Lonsdale took on his first musical role, playing Private Prewitt in From Here to Eternity the Musical. He released the number "Fight the Fight" from the production as a single and received a WhatsOnStage Award nomination for Best Actor. That same year he played Daniel in Another Place at The Drum, Theatre Royal Plymouth, and appeared in the BBC series The Interceptor. From 2015 to 2017, he played Connor, a poet and the love interest of Tracey, played by Michaela Coel, as a series regular in Chewing Gum.

Subsequent stage work included A Lie of the Mind at Southwark Playhouse in 2017 with Gethin Anthony and Kate Fahy, Utility at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond in 2018, and Standing at the Sky's Edge at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield in 2019 and at the National Theatre in 2023. Outside of his professional work, Lonsdale ran the 2018 London Marathon in support of the Heads Together charity. He lives in South East London and has interests in fly fishing and Liverpool F.C.
