About
Born December 9, 1923, in Victoria, British Columbia, Robert Lindgren served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II before joining the Ballet Russe in 1944, where George Balanchine was principal choreographer. He danced with Ballet Theater and became a soloist with the New York City Ballet. With his wife, dancer Sonja Tyven, he opened the Lindgren-Tyven School of Ballet in Phoenix. He went on to become the first dean of dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and founded the North Carolina Dance Theater.
