About

Robert Iscove, born July 4, 1947, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is a choreographer, director, and producer who has worked across Broadway, television, and film. He trained in dance at the Juilliard School and launched his career as an assistant to choreographer Michael Bennett.

Iscove made his Broadway debut as a performer in the 1967 musical Henry, Sweet Henry, the same production Bennett choreographed. He subsequently transitioned into choreography, with his first feature film work in that capacity coming on the 1973 film adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar. His choreography work extended to television specials, and he served as lead choreographer for the 50th Academy Awards. That body of work brought him his first Primetime Emmy nomination, for Outstanding Choreography, in recognition of his work on the special Ann-Margret Smith in 1976.

Iscove moved into directing with television series work throughout the 1980s, helming episodes of Philip Marlowe, Private Eye, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Faerie Tale Theatre, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Miami Vice, 21 Jump Street, and Wiseguy. He continued directing television films and miniseries into the following decade, including the 1997 production of Cinderella, which earned him a second Primetime Emmy nomination, this time for Outstanding Directing for a Variety or Musical Program.

He made his feature directorial debut with the 1999 film She's All That, followed by Boys and Girls in 2000. In 2003 he directed From Justin to Kelly, a film starring American Idol contestants Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, which received eight Razzie Award nominations. Iscove also served as an uncredited co-director on the 2019 animated film Wonder Park, stepping in to complete the project after original director Dylan Brown was removed late in production.
