About
Robert Christian (December 27, 1939 – January 27, 1983) was an American actor born in Los Angeles, California, whose career spanned stage, television, and film. He began performing as a child, with early television appearances on Amos 'n' Andy and The Andy Griffith Show. After relocating to New York, he trained at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg and became a member of the Negro Ensemble Company.
Christian's Broadway career extended from 1968 to 1981 and included productions such as We Bombed in New Haven, Mary Stuart, All God's Chillun Got Wings, An Evening With Richard Nixon and..., and Piaf. Alongside his Broadway work, he maintained an active presence in Off-Broadway theater. In 1976 he received an Obie Award for his performance in Athol Fugard's Blood Knot, presented at the Manhattan Theater Club.
On television, Christian portrayed Detective Bob Morgan on the daytime drama Another World, a role he held from January through December 1982. He departed the series before his death on January 27, 1983, from cancerous complications of AIDS, at the age of 43.
