Robert Greenleaf Brink was born in Boston on March 30, 1924, and died there on October 24, 2014. He worked as a violinist, conductor, and educator, holding a professorship at the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts. He performed across the United States, Canada, and Europe, appearing under conductors including Sergei Koussevitzky, Aaron Copland, and Darius Milhaud. Alongside harpsichordist Daniel Pinkham, he gave premieres of works by Walter Piston, Henry Cowell, Alan Hovhaness, and Pinkham himself, who composed his 1958 violin concerto for Brink. In the mid-1950s, Brink and Pinkham co-founded the Cambridge Festival Orchestra, with Brink serving as its concertmaster. In 1951 and 1952, the two performed at Brown University and Wellesley College under the Peabody Mason Concerts. Brink also founded the Boston Classical Orchestra, serving as its concertmaster until 1995, and founded and conducted the Orchestra for the Art of Music, dedicated to music of the Classical period. He lived for many years in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts.
