Coster made his Broadway appearance in 1998, performing in Wait Until Dark. His stage work established an early foundation for a career that would expand significantly into screen roles.
Among his film credits, Coster portrayed Dietrich Banning in the 2002 action comedy The Tuxedo and took on the role of the Chechen in Christopher Nolan's 2008 film The Dark Knight. He also appeared as Elias Kassar in the 2015 thriller Blackhat.
