About
Ricky Paull Goldin, born Richard Paull Goldin on January 5, 1965, in San Francisco, California, is an American actor, producer, director, and television personality whose career has spanned Broadway, daytime television, film, and reality programming. He is the son of Paul Goldin, a London-born entertainer, behavioral psychologist, and hypnotist who hosted his own show in England, and Irish actress P.J. Goldin. Paul Goldin was born into a Jewish family with a French father and English mother. Goldin has four siblings — Sarah, David, Bobby, and Katie-Jane — and his uncle is British film director Jack Gold.
Goldin made his first television appearance at age three in an episode of Romper Room. The family relocated to England when he was four, and his parents divorced when he was seven. At thirteen, Goldin returned to the United States, settling first in New York City and later in Atlantic Beach, New York. During his teenage years he appeared in approximately 150 television commercials before transitioning to stage work.
His Broadway career began in 1979 and extended through 1994. At fifteen, Goldin appeared in the Broadway production of On Golden Pond. In 1994, he returned to Broadway in the revival of Grease, taking on the starring role of Danny Zuko. Following that production, he took the lead in a staging of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance, performed in London and Dublin, Ireland. Goldin has also appeared in numerous off-Broadway productions, including Nest of the Wood Grouse, Feathered Serpent, Happy Journey, Queens of France, Long Christmas Dinner, and Our Town.
On television, Goldin became widely recognized for his work in daytime drama. He portrayed Dean Frame on NBC's Another World from 1990 to 1993, from 1994 to 1995, and briefly again in 1998. He subsequently appeared on The Young and the Restless as stalker Gary Dawson from 1999 to 2000. Beginning in 2001, Goldin played Gus Aitoro on CBS's Guiding Light, a role he held until the character's death on April 1, 2008. He received Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor for that role in both 2003 and 2007. In 2005, fans voted Goldin and co-star Beth Ehlers, along with their characters Gus and Harley Cooper, as the top couple in the Procter and Gamble-sponsored Most Irresistible Combination contest.
On March 5, 2008, Goldin joined the cast of ABC's All My Children in the recast role of Dr. Joseph "Jake" Martin, a position he held through the series finale on September 23, 2011. His work on that program earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2010 and a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in 2011. In May 2013, he joined the cast of CBS's The Bold and the Beautiful in a recurring capacity, and in 2014 he played Andrew Miller in the soap opera web series Beacon Hill, for which he also served as a producer and received a 2015 Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series.
Earlier in his career, Goldin starred in the 1985 ABC sitcom Hail to the Chief, playing the son of the first female President of the United States, portrayed by Patty Duke. The series was canceled after one season. He also held a recurring role on Kate and Allie as Jason, the boyfriend of Allie's daughter Jenny, and appeared in two episodes of ALF in 1988 and 1989 as Danny Duckworth. In 1993, he hosted the short-lived ABC primetime reality dating show Street Match, which he also co-produced with Gabe Sachs. His film credits include Piranha II: The Spawning (1981), The Blob (1988), and Lambada (1990), as well as the television movies A Face to Die For (1996) and Talk to Me (1996), both opposite Yasmine Bleeth.
Goldin hosts the HGTV series Spontaneous Construction, which premiered on February 15, 2013. His producing work includes a 2001 variety pilot called FLY TV for Viacom, ESPN2's The Celebrity Arabian Adventure produced on location in Dubai in 2003, and the TLC special Seeing VS Believing, which premiered in May 2010. In 2015, he served as director and executive producer of Hidden Heroes, a reality series produced by Chicken Soup for the Soul that aired within CBS's Dream Team Saturday morning lineup and focused on individuals performing acts of community service and kindness. He also holds the position of Senior Executive in Business Affairs at Knocking, Inc., a digital media and e-commerce company. Beyond entertainment, Goldin founded GoldBarn Homes, a design and construction firm, and has undertaken luxury real estate projects in the Hamptons and Palm Beach areas, including the restoration of a historic nineteenth-century Sag Harbor residence that was listed for $5.9 million following a $3 million renovation.
In his personal life, Goldin dated actress Yasmine Bleeth beginning in 1989; the two became engaged in January 1995 before ending their relationship later that year. He was subsequently engaged to actress and Playboy model Priscilla Taylor. In November 2001, Goldin married British television presenter Emma Ford, and the two divorced in 2002. He began dating television fashion personality Gretta Monahan in 2009, and together they have two sons, born in October 2010 and June 2017 respectively.
