Richard Carle, born Charles Nicholas Carleton on July 7, 1871, in Somerville, Massachusetts, was an American actor, composer, book writer, playwright, and stage director whose career spanned both Broadway and film. He died on June 28, 1941, in North Hollywood, California, from a heart attack.

Carle's stage career brought him to prominent venues in New York, London, and Chicago. Among his notable roles, he played J. Offenbach Gaggs in The Casino Girl in 1900 and Algy Cuffs in The Belle of Bohemia in London in 1901. His Broadway work extended from 1898 to 1930 and encompassed performing, composing, and writing book material for productions. He starred in Mary's Lamb and appeared in Arms and the Girl, the revue The Broadway Whirl, and the musical The Hurdy-Gurdy Girl, among other productions.

In addition to his stage work, Carle appeared in more than 130 films between 1915 and 1941. His personal papers from 1900 to 1941 are held by the Billy Rose Theatre Division of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

Carle was married twice. His first wife was Ella Samantha Clifford, with whom he had one child. Following Clifford's death, he married Laura Casner.
