About

Ricca Allen (June 9, 1863 – September 13, 1949) was a Canadian-born stage and film actress whose career spanned several decades across vaudeville, Broadway, and motion pictures. Born in Victoria, Colony of Vancouver Island, to John Allen of Oakland, California, she was active on Broadway between 1904 and 1924.

Allen began building her reputation as a performer in the 1880s alongside her sisters Louise Allen and Ray Allen, with whom she was known as a popular dancing act. She subsequently spent nine years performing in a company led by actress Nance O'Neil, and later established her own company in vaudeville. She also performed at Niblo's Garden for more than five years.

Her Broadway work was concentrated in two distinct periods. In 1904, she appeared in several productions, including Judith of Bethulia, The Fires of St. John, Hedda Gabler, and Magda. She returned to Broadway in 1907 in Uncle Tom's Cabin, followed by the revue Up and Down Broadway in 1910, and the play Blind Alley in 1924.

In addition to her stage career, Allen appeared in more than 50 films between 1913 and 1941. She died in Los Angeles, California, on September 13, 1949.
