About

Reginald Bach (3 September 1886 – 6 January 1941) was a British actor and theatrical producer whose career spanned stage and screen across both Britain and the United States. He was born in Shepperton, Middlesex, England, and received his education at Dean Close School in Cheltenham Spa, where his family had relocated from Leamington Spa. Following his schooling, Bach remained in Cheltenham Spa and built a reputation as an amateur actor before making his professional debut in 1905.

Over the course of his career in Britain, Bach accumulated credits as both a performer and a producer. His stage work included Damaged Goods in 1917, Havoc in 1923, and Blue Peter in 1924, the latter of which he produced. Blue Peter was written by E. Temple Thurston, whose daughter, Olive Thurston, had acted in the production; Bach married her in 1926. He continued producing and acting throughout the late 1920s and into the 1930s, with credits including Through a Window and The Scorpion, both of which he produced and performed in, as well as The Bride and Treasure Island in 1934. Bach also served on the executive committee of the actors' union Equity.

Alongside his stage work, Bach appeared in a number of British films beginning in 1919. His screen credits include The Chinese Puzzle, Once Aboard the Lugger, The Amazing Quest of Mr. Ernest Bliss, and Build Thy House, all from the early 1920s, as well as later films such as Hobson's Choice, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and Account Rendered in the early 1930s.

Bach's Broadway career extended from 1927 to 1939 and included appearances in several productions. Among his credits on the New York stage were the play Yellow Sands, the comedy The Taming of the Shrew, the play Our Betters, Save Me the Waltz, and the play Mother. At the outbreak of the Second World War, Bach relocated to the United States, where he continued acting in plays. He died on 6 January 1941 in New York City.
