About
Raymond Hackett (July 15, 1902 – July 7, 1958) was an American actor who worked in both stage and screen, with a Broadway career spanning from 1907 to 1934. Born in New York City to Maurice Hackett and Florence Hackett, née Hart, he was the brother of actor Albert Hackett. His mother later became a silent screen actress.
Hackett began performing as a child, making his first stage appearance in New York in 1907 in The Toymaker of Nuremberg at the Garrick Theatre on November 25 of that year. In September 1909 he appeared alongside Margaret Anglin in The Awakening of Helena Richie. During his early years in silent films he was billed as Master Raymond Hackett, and he appeared with his brother Albert in several short films as well as the 1921 feature The Country Flapper, which co-starred Dorothy Gish and Glenn Hunter.
Among his adult Broadway credits were Piper Paid, Nine Pine Street, Conquest, Camille, and Adam Had Two Sons. He achieved notable stage success in 1925 with The Cradle Snatchers, a production that also featured Mary Boland and Humphrey Bogart. Hackett went on to find popularity in early sound films, though his film career came to an end around 1931.
Hackett was married twice. His first marriage, to Myra Hampton, was dissolved. His second wife was actress Blanche Sweet.
