About
Raymond Stover Fulmer was born on February 17, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died on February 6, 2013, at the age of 79 following an undisclosed illness. He is best known for portraying Steve Baxter in the final season of the television sitcom Hazel, which aired from 1965 to 1966.
Fulmer's education took him through Girard College, Penn Charter, and Boston College before the U.S. Army drafted him in 1953. He served in Germany until 1955, and it was during that period of military service that he developed an interest in theatre. Following his discharge, he relocated to New York City to study at the American Theatre Wing, financing his training through modeling work in fashion advertisements and small television roles.
His Broadway career spanned from 1956 to 1968. In 1957 he joined the cast of the comedy Auntie Mame, taking on the role of Patrick Dennis. He returned to Broadway in 1968 with an appearance in Happiness Is Just a Little Thing Called a Rolls Royce.
On television, Fulmer played Steve Baxter, a real estate agent and the husband of Barbara Baxter and father of Susie Baxter, during Hazel's concluding season. After that series concluded in 1966, he went on to appear in two soap operas, portraying Lee Gantry on Guiding Light and Martin Nell Dillard on Somerset. Fulmer continued working in television until 1992, with his final screen appearance coming in The New WKRP in Cincinnati, after which he retired.
