Raymond Cornelius Boyle was born on June 28, 1923, in Lisbon, North Dakota, the son of Cornelius Hugh Boyle and Elma Mae Harrison. He also worked professionally under the name Dirk London. During World War II, Boyle served in the United States Marine Corps, completing his training at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Following his discharge, he pursued a career as a model before transitioning to the stage and screen.
Boyle's Broadway career spanned from 1947 to 1955, during which he appeared in The Great Campaign and The Southwest Corner. His screen work began in 1952 with the film Zombies of the Stratosphere, the same year he made appearances on several television programs, including The Web, Celanese Theatre, Gang Busters, Rocky King Detective, and Captain Video and His Video Rangers. In 1954, he took on the role of Bruce Matthews in an episode of the western series Death Valley Days.
Boyle is perhaps best remembered for his role as Morgan Earp, brother of Wyatt Earp, in the ABC western television series The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, which he joined in 1956. The series featured Hugh O'Brian, Morgan Woodward, Douglas Fowley, and John Anderson, and ran until 1961. Following its conclusion, Boyle guest-starred in a wide range of television programs, among them Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, Lawman, The Millionaire, ER, Tales of the Texas Rangers, Harbor Command, Navy Log, The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, and Highway Patrol. His film appearances during this period included Ride Clear of Diablo, Prisoner of War, Return from the Sea, and The Bridges at Toko-Ri. Alongside his acting work, Boyle operated an actors' workshop and served as a production designer on two films.
Boyle retired from acting in 1995, with his final acting credit being an appearance on the Fox teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210. In 1996, he made an appearance on the syndicated comedy talk show Night Stand with Dick Dietrick. In his personal life, Boyle met actress Jan Shepard in 1951, and the two married on February 6, 1954. Their marriage lasted until his death. Boyle died on January 6, 2022, in Burbank, California, at the age of 98, and was buried at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
