Thomas Randell Oglesby, born in 1949, is an American actor whose career spans stage, film, and television across several decades. He is perhaps most widely recognized for his recurring role as Degra on Star Trek: Enterprise, a franchise to which he contributed multiple distinct characters across several series.
Oglesby's Broadway career includes a 1993 appearance in The Kentucky Cycle. His work in theater preceded a long run of screen credits that established him as a versatile character actor in both dramatic and genre productions.
Within the Star Trek universe, Oglesby portrayed an unusually broad range of roles. On Star Trek: The Next Generation, he appeared in the season two episode "Loud as a Whisper," which aired January 9, 1989, playing one of three figures known as Riva's Chorus. On Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, he took on the dual role of the Miradorn twins Ah-Kel and Ro-Kel in the episode "Vortex," and later appeared as Silaran Prin in "The Darkness and the Light." His Star Trek: Voyager credit came in the season five episode "Counterpoint," in which he played the telepathic alien Kir. On Enterprise, in addition to his recurring role as Degra, he portrayed Captain Trena'L in the episode "Unexpected."
His film work includes a role as Mike Dodge in the 1996 blockbuster Independence Day, in a scene opposite Randy Quaid. In 2011, he voiced and portrayed Captain Lachlan McKelty in the video game L.A. Noire, developed by Team Bondi and Rockstar Games.
Oglesby accumulated a substantial number of television guest appearances throughout his career. He played Professor Seidel in the Angel episode "Supersymmetry" and portrayed Tom Jeter's father in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. In 2000, he appeared as Reverend Mackee in the X-Files seventh season episode "Signs and Wonders" and as Joshua Vinten, a formalwear rental shop manager, in one of the final episodes of Columbo, titled "Murder With Too Many Notes." In 2007, he guest starred as Huell on the ABC soap opera General Hospital on July 17 of that year, and in the same year played Bethlehem Steel executive Walter Veith in the Mad Men episode "New Amsterdam." In 2017, he took on the role of Asa Leopold in the Netflix limited series Godless, and in 2021 appeared as Dr. Stan Nielson in the third episode of the Marvel Studios miniseries WandaVision.
