About
Randy Blair is an American actor and writer who originated the role of Hipolito/Elton John in the musical Amélie. He first performed the role in the world premiere production at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, then carried it through subsequent engagements at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles and finally to the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway in 2017.
Blair's off-Broadway acting credits include the world premiere of the Adding Machine, directed by David Cromer; The Black Crook at Abrons Arts Center; and The Yellow Wood, directed by BD Wong. He also appeared in original developmental productions of Chaplin. His regional theatre work spans Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and Weston Playhouse. On screen, Blair has appeared in the television series Naked Brothers Band, Viralcom, Law & Order, and Strangers with Candy, as well as the film Afterwards.
Alongside his acting work, Blair has pursued a career as a bookwriter and lyricist. His writing credits include Gigantic at Vineyard Theatre, Perez Hilton Saves the Universe (or at least the greater Los Angeles area): the Musical! at Barrow Street Theatre, Spidermusical at Mint Theatre, Haute Mess at Ars Nova, and #RUFF, a serial production at The Flea Theatre. He also wrote Leslie Kritzer's Beautiful Disaster, presented at Joe's Pub. Blair served as a creative consultant writer on Funny Or Die's Billy on the Street, and his play Mrs. Lowenstein was adapted into a five-part limited series podcast starring Ann Dowd.
