About

Ralph C. Herz (March 25, 1878 – July 12, 1921) was an actor and singer born in France to American parents. He spent the majority of his professional life working in the United States, where he built a career across vaudeville, musical plays, and Broadway.

Herz was active on Broadway from 1902 to 1920, appearing in a range of productions that included both musicals and plays. Among his starring roles were the musicals The Soul Kiss and Lola from Berlin. He also appeared in the musical Always You, the play Monte Cristo, and the musical Good Night, Paul, along with additional productions throughout his Broadway career. His work in musical plays made him a popular figure with American audiences.

In addition to his stage work, Herz appeared in a number of silent films during the mid-to-late 1910s. His screen credits include The Purple Lady (1916), The Mystery of No. 47 (1917), and the short films The Matinee Idol, Married But Single, Winning an Heiress, The Love Dope, and The Regeneration of Reginald, all released in 1917.

At one point in his life, Herz was married to musical star Lulu Glaser. He died on July 12, 1921, at the age of 43, from diabetes.
