About
Queenie Leonard, born Pearl Walker on 18 February 1905 in Manchester, Lancashire, England, was a British actress whose career spanned stage, screen, television, and cabaret on both sides of the Atlantic. She died on 17 January 2002, in West Los Angeles, at the age of 96, and is interred at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in the Garden of Roses section.
Leonard began performing on stage alongside her father at the age of 14. Her Broadway career ran from 1928 to 1946 and included appearances in The Haven and the revue This Year of Grace. She was also among the cast of And Then There Were None in 1945, and remained the last surviving member of that production until her death. By the time she made her first Hollywood film in 1941, she had already accumulated two decades of stage and screen experience, having made her film debut in 1931.
Over the course of her career, Leonard appeared in more than 30 Hollywood films, performed in cabaret in both Britain and the United States, starred in a one-woman show, worked in television sitcoms, and contributed voice work to Disney animated productions. Her final screen appearance was in 20th Century Fox's Star!, after which she retired in 1968.
Leonard was married twice. Her first marriage, to film designer Lawrence P. Williams, lasted from 1936 to 1947, and her second, to actor Tom Conway, from 1958 to 1963. Both marriages ended in divorce and produced no children. For a portion of her life, Leonard was legally blind.
