Pierre Victor Théophile Bertin was a French stage and film actor born on 24 October 1891 in Lille, France. He died on 13 May 1984 in Paris. His career spanned both the stage and screen, and he became a notable presence in French theatrical and cinematic life across several decades.
Bertin's work extended beyond performance into the literary and musical realm. He served as the librettist for La Gageure imprévue, an opéra-comique based on a work by Sedaine, with music composed by Henri Sauguet. The piece received its premiere at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in 1944. He also wrote the libretto for Les Deux Rendez-vous, a radio opera drawing on the work of Nerval, with music by Claude Arrieu, which was first broadcast in 1951.
On screen, Bertin appeared in the 1948 film The Lame Devil, directed by Sacha Guitry. He also appeared in a 1960 production of La Vie parisienne, in which he played the role of Baron de Gondremarck.
Bertin brought his stage experience to Broadway during the 1950s, performing there between 1952 and 1957. His Broadway credits included the plays Volpone, Hamlet, Baptiste, and Christophe Colomb, among other productions.
