Philip Sterling (October 9, 1922 – November 30, 1998) was an American actor born in New York, New York, whose career spanned stage, film, and television across several decades.
Sterling's Broadway career extended from 1955 to 1986 and included appearances in three productions. He performed in Silk Stockings, the political satire An Evening With Richard Nixon and..., and Broadway Boy.
On television, Sterling took on several recurring roles. He portrayed Dr. Winston Croft across 28 episodes of the daytime soap opera The Doctors, appeared as Judge Truman Ventnor in 21 episodes of Sisters, and played Dr. Simon Weiss in 12 episodes of St. Elsewhere. Beyond these recurring parts, Sterling accumulated an extensive list of guest appearances, including episodes of The Golden Girls, M*A*S*H, The Rockford Files, Family Ties, Hart to Hart, Growing Pains, Night Court, The Wonder Years, The A-Team, Diff'rent Strokes, and Newhart. He also appeared in multiple episodes of Barney Miller, L.A. Law, Matlock, Guiding Light, and Hotel.
Sterling died on November 30, 1998, in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, from complications related to myelofibrosis. He was 76 years old.
